Where depth hoar avalanches have occurred on Mount Apharwat in 2015. If an avalanche has occurred in an area is it now deemed safe? No. It isn’t that simple. Assess the slopes you are skiing with snow pits and test pits in safe locations. Make your own decisions. Do not let ski tracks and the actions of others sway your decision making. Maintain an objective mindset.
*Keep in mind that the Gulmarg Ski Patrol can inspect the ski area and give the area a green light for opening, and then the gondola can decide not to open phase 2. We respect this decision. Yesterday the concern was wind, and the gondola chose not to open. This scenario could happen again today. If a lift or the gondola is closed, it is always done in the interest of safety.
Beacon, shovel, and probe required to access phase 2 of Gulmarg gondola.
