Snowpack Discussion

We’ve received about 9cm of snow at mid mountain in the past 24 hours. Wind slab formation in past days is still showing reactivity in the alpine zone. Our persistent slab problem remains. Triggering a wind slab or loose snow avalanche today in the alpine could step down and create a larger hard slab avalanche on our persistent weak layer. Likely areas for triggering avalanches today are on ridgelines, near rocks, below cornices, and in other areas generally thought of as safe. In the coming weeks we will see consistent warming which will help to alleviate this persistent slab problem.  The smartest approach for backcountry travel today is to stay below treeline. Play it safe, there is always next year.

heading-ccWeather Discussion

Cloudy skies this morning with snow showers forecasted for the afternoon.  Generally light winds with possible moderate gusts in the afternoon from a Southerly direction.  More snow is forecasted for tonight and on through the day tomorrow,  with snow showers continuing on till Wednesday.
