Snowpack Discussion

31 March 2017 – A pulse of rain showers forecasted for mid day today.  Avalanche danger at all elevations and aspects is Low (1) today. It is wise to avoid travel on and beneath cornices today during the warmest hours of the day.  Watch out for unstable Wet Loose snow on steeper aspects at and below treeline today.  As always, Low (1) avalanche danger doesn’t mean no avalanche danger. Choose terrain wisely with a mind for terrain traps (rocks, trees, gullies).

http://www.deepsnowsafety.org/index.php/. We now have enough snow in the conifer forests for skiers and riders to get trapped in tree wells and stream holes. Read more about this phenomenon in the link above. It causes several fatalities each year in other ski regions of the globe.
